Jean Dean called the meeting to order and welcomed our guests.

OLD BUSINESS
Midland quilt show – show was great and well attended.  We all appreciate the work that went into such an endeavor.
State of CAQ-We will not apply for 501c3 status at this time.  Need to open a bank account as a club.
Received a letter from Louise Underwood requesting info on our show in June.  Will be passed on to Linda Fisher (exhibit chairperson) for response. We need to supply Linda with good photos of work we will hang in the show by February. These will be used for publicity.
Mahon Library show-small pieces in cases exhibited well and we were asked back for next year.
Portales show- Caprock Art Quilters were featured guild and had a good showing that was well received.
Texas Tech Museum show – in conjunction with Textural Rhythms show. A piece no larger than 18”x24” with the theme “Jazz” in March 2010.
Resignation of Beth Nelson was accepted by majority by internet vote. We will miss her.

NEW BUSINESS
Donniece Smith presented the nominations for Valerie Hill as Secretary and Jean Grimes as President (to replace Beth) from the nominating committee of Muff Fregia, Valerie Hill, and Donniece Smith (chair).  After asking for other nominations and hearing none, all members present voted and elected these new officers.

Jean Dean, Vice President
Valerie Hill, Secretary
Stephanie Langford, Treasurer
Ellie Krenick, Past President
Stephanie Langford made a motion to get a regular bank account at Wells Fargo Bank with the officers as listed above as signers and requiring two signatures on each check. Muff Fregia seconded and motion passed by acclamation.
Upcoming quilt shows -at Ella Noel Museum in Odessa and Museum of Southwest in Midland.
Upcoming class in Midland-Louisa Smith Strips n Curves.  See Naomi Hunt for info.
Dues for next year – Valerie will be accepting your dues of $25.00 for the new year.  We will be planning programs and workshops for our group from within our group.  If you or someone you know has a technique or idea to share, please contact Jean Dean (programs) or Muff (workshops).

CHALLENGE for February – we did not discuss our 7”x10” challenge so I’ll digress from the minutes long enough to challenge you to make something that reflects your artist’s statement.  Remember we are going to use these as a fund raiser for the club.
Another challenge for February- everyone is challenged to bring a Valentine inspired artist trading card (ATC) (size 2 ½ x 3 ½) to trade at the next meeting on February 13th.
Don’t forget to check on SAQA’s webinar on photos and portfolios.
Show and Tell – thanks to all who shared.
Show and Tell – workshop – a few of the things made during the dying workshop on Friday and Saturday.
Program for Feb-Ellie will teach us Procion MX dying.

PROGRAM – Sandra Stephenson presented a program on writing an artist’s statement. I think the challenge was productive with her guidance.  I have attached her handouts for those who didn’t make it to the meeting.  I hope everyone will make the opportunity to finish your statement and that it will help you define and refine your work.  Thanks Sandra for the time you invested in preparing and presenting your thoughts (and for finding us!)

Sandra also mentioned that Allison Black from South Plains College has invited CAQ to exhibit at the college in January & February.  Since this is before our next meeting, we will notify everyone by email as more info becomes available.

Meeting adjourned.

See you February 13th

Jean Grimes
